The most popular network protocol in the world, TCP/IP began to be designed in the 1970’s by Vinton Cerf and Bob Kahn. It was not called by the name TCP/IP when it was first created. It was known simply as TCP.”

“The internet is a packet-switched network, in which information is broken down into small packets. The small packets are sent individually over many different routes at the same time, and the reassembled at the receiving end. TCP is the component that collects and reassembles the packets of data, while IP is responsible for making sure the packets are sent to the right destination.”
